Toshiba Rumored to be Creating a “Super” Upconverting DVD Player
The latest word in DVD Upconversion? Toshiba is rumored to be working on what is being called a “super” upconverting DVD player whose quality will rival that of Blu-Ray High Definition. And, to go a step further, the super upconverting DVD players will be much cheaper than Blu-Ray Players.
Given that most consumers consider DVD quality (480i resolution) “good enough”, it’s no suprise that following the death of HD-DVD, Toshiba would attempt to rebound by making what most people consider “good enough” even better. Can Toshiba deliver on the promise of better and cheaper DVD upconversion? Only time can tell. Toshiba has indicated it will release these super upconverting DVD players at the end of 2008.
The Oppo and the PS3 remain the best players in the market for DVD Upconversion.
And Sony continues to abuse their High Definition monopoly by over-pricing today’s soon-to-be-obsolete Blu-Ray players.
