A Safe Refuge From the Blu-Ray/HD DVD War
Enjoying your HDTV and wondering how you can improve the viewing experience of your existing DVD collection? A quality DVD Upconverter is the safest route to take until a final victor is universally declared between HD DVD and Blu-Ray. Gambling on either Blu-Ray or HD DVD now is a risky endeavour; in time, one is certain to prevail and the other will become obsolete. The exact same thing happened over 20 years ago with the VCR between the VHS and Betamax formats (ask your dad if you’re too young to remember that one).
In the end, VHS - an inferior technology by most accounts - won. Betamax became obsolete.
And history continues to repeat itself as the war between Blu-Ray and HD DVD is fought. If you keep up with the headlines, you’ll find every week or two another story about how one or the other is superior, or has taken the lead by being adopted by a given distributor.
The truth is no one knows when this will end, who will be the final victor, and who will become obsolete.
The bottom line is that if you have a High Defintion LCD or Plasma television (or HDTV) and you want to take advantage of that higher resolution, your best bet now and in the near future is to invest in a quality DVD Upconvert Player. While you won’t enjoy the exact same resolution you will with Blu-Ray or HD DVD, your viewing experience will be greatly enhanced, and you’ll notice a significant difference in the quality of the video.
Besides, if you’re like me, you probably have an existing DVD collection. Why not find more ways to enjoy what you have, rather than gamble on what the next standard is going to be in entertainment? I won’t be replacing my existing DVD collection anytime soon; my old DVD player, however, has been replaced with an Oppo DV-981H Upconverting DVD Player.
And my old DVD collection never looked so good.
